Houston 100 Honors Local
Training Company Again
Barry
Hardy, CEO of Training & Development Systems (TDS), will be accepting
the Houston 100 award for the second year in a row. The award is sponsored
by the University of Houston’s Small Business Development Center and
honors the area’s top 100 private companies making the greatest impact
on Houston. This is quite an accomplishment for a man who used his experience
in the petrochemical industry to create a business from the ground up
in just eight years.
After a successful 19-year career with Amoco Chemical Company in human
resources and operations, Hardy realized that he enjoyed the aspect
of workforce training the most. He liked it so much that he returned
to college after 14 years and received a B.S. degree in Training and
Development from the University of Houston. He took his technical and
management experience and ventured into entrepreneurship in 1993. “I
have gained a greater appreciation for those who have taken their dreams
and turned them into realities,” Hardy said.
After many successes and a fair number of setbacks, TDS was honored
in 2000 with the number 26 spot on the Houston 100. Hardy said that
it was especially gratifying to receive the notification this month
that TDS had placed a second time in the top 100.
Shortly after founding TDS, Hardy drafted a set of “Guiding Principles”
upon which he still operates the company today. One of those principles
speak to giving time and financial resources to those in need including
supporting the community and supporting youth
through education scholarships.
The Houston 100 is a prestigious honor, but Hardy’s belief in his “Guiding
Principles” causes him to be as equally pleased with being recognized
for his community involvement. He was recently honored by College of
the Mainland for his contributions in developing the two-year associate
in applied science degree, which prepares graduates for entry-level
employment as process operators in the petrochemical and refining industries.
Today, this program is helping to alleviate the shortage of qualified
process technicians.
Hardy continues to commit personal, as well as company time and resources,
to important community events such as the League City Village Fair and
Musical Festival, HIS Ministries and St. Luke’s Heart Exchange.
